Soon a second generation took over the American programs. Dugald C. Jackson and Harris J. Ryan of the second wave had remarkably similar careers. Both were born in Pennsylvania and both studied electrical science and technology at Cornell under William A. Anthony. Jackson took the postgraduate course in 1885-87 and Ryan worked as a research assistant to Anthony.
