Franz Sachs was born in Berlin in 1875. His mother was Bertha Sachs nee Ehrlich, sister of the chemist Paul Ehrlich. Sachs worked in the field of color chemistry, as lecturer at the Berlin University and in 1908 as full professor. He was secretary for the Deutsche Chemische Gesellschaft and worked under a private contract for the company Bayer Farbenfabriken. He died in 1919 in Berlin
