Jehan Cauvin (1509—1564).
His father, Gérard Cauvin, was a secretary of the Court and an attorney of the Bishop of Noyon. Young Calvin was awarded in 1521 an ecclesiastical benefice, which he received until 1527. At age 12 he studied Latin under M. Cordier at Collège de la Marche (1521-1523). In 1523 his father sent him out to escape an epidemic of Black Death plague. At first he lived with his uncle, the blacksmith Richard Cauvin until December, 1523. Then transferred to Collège de Montaigu where he studied Philosophy under J. Mair (1524-1525).
