Bio:

Richard Neidlein was born in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany, in 1930. He studied chemistry at the University of Würzburg, Germany, and from 1951–1953 was a pharmaceutical intern at St. John's Pharmacy, Künzelsau, and at St. Catherine's Hospital Pharmacy, Stuttgart, both Germany. From 1953–1956 he studied pharmacy at Eberhard Karls University, Tübingen, Germany, and gained his license to practice as a pharmacist in 1957.

Neidlein got his Ph.D. from the same university in 1958, under the supervision of Professor Walter Hückel. He moved to Philipps University, Marburg, Germany, in 1959, where he gained his Habilitation in pharmaceutical chemistry in 1964 and was appointed scientific advisor and Professor in 1967.

Shortly afterward, Neidlein took up the position of Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Fridericiana University of Karlsruhe, Germany. In 1974 he moved to Heidelberg University, Germany, where he remained until his retirement in 1999.
