Bio:

Born 1948 at Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Lived at Rio de Janeiro most of his life. Attended high school at Colégio Pedro II. Afterwards got a degree of Licenciate in Natural History at
Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, a MSc degree from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and a PhD from University College London. Worked in several brazilian universities. His work ranges from taxonomy through biogeography, ecology, physiology, genetics, speciation and conservation biology. He published more than 200 papers by 2014. He supervised almost two hundred interns and graduate students. He was elected honorary fellow of the Brazilian Mammalogy Society and honorary member of the American Society of Mammalogist.
