1832-1889. Court physician, and head of the Pirogov Society, 1878-1889. He studied especially digestive diseases. Studied in Europe after Medical School at the University of Moscow. Founded one of the first medical experimental laboratories in Russia. Credited in Russia with the dsicovery of infectious hepatitis, which was known there as Botkin's disease. Active in medical administration in the state bureaucracy and in medical training.
