Barnabas Lindars SSF, Priest Religious and Biblical Scholar. Lindars, originally named Frederick Chevallier was born in June 1923. Educated at Altrincham Grammar School, he was awarded the Rogerson Scholarship in 1941 and after a period of military service he entered St John’s College, Cambridge in 1945. Graduating with a first class honours in the Theological Tripos, he was awarded an MA in 1948, a BD followed in 1961 and subsequently he gained a DD in 1971.

Lindars trained for the Priesthood at Westcott House, Cambridge, from 1946 – 1948. On leaving the House he was ordained Deacon. In 1949 he received his Priestly ordination. Following a Curacy at St Luke’s, Sunderland, he entered into the Society of St Francis and thus became SSF in 1952.
