Jean-Claude Rosenwald graduated as an engineer in 1967. The same year he joined the Institut Gustave Roussy in Villejuif (France) in order to develop dose calculation programs for brachytherapy. In 1971 he took a position of medical physicist and moved to Institut Curie (Paris) in 1976 as head of the Medical Physics department. The same year he got his PhD on dose computation in brachytherapy.

During his career, he always had a particular interest in the use of computers in radiation therapy. He co-authored several international reports on this subject and was involved in the development of commercial solutions. He also promoted the use of proton beams in radiotherapy.
