Hooggeleerde SCHORNAGEL , onafscheidelijk zijt Gij met de herinnering aan de onvergetelijke jaren van mijn assistentschap verbonden . De dagelijksche vriendschappelijke omgang met U - destijds prosector - heeft mij deze periode tot een der aangenaamste van mijn loopbaan gemaakt . Immers was ik , wanneer er moeilijkheden van wetenschappelijken aard waren te overwinnen , in de eerste plaats op U aangewezen en het was U nooit te veel mij op de U eigen aangename en oorspronkelijke wijze , voorlichting te geven , waarbij mij steeds bleek , dat uw uitgebreide kennis gegrondvest was op ervaring , verkregen door eigen aanschouwing . Het aandeel dat Gij hebt gehad in mijn pathologisch - anatomische ontwikkeling , is dan ook zeer belangrijk geweest en was stellig oorzaak , dat mijn belangstelling voor de pathologische anatomie onverflauwd is gebleven . Een dubbel groot genoegen is het mij daarom , dat Gij mijn promotor hebt willen zijn en dat ik thans in de gelegenheid ben U voor dit alles dank te zeggen
