Keivin Burns ( 1881 - 1958 ) hatte an der University of Minnesota studiert und wurde dort 1901 graduiert und 1910 als Schüler von F . P . Leavenworth mit einer Arbeit über Sternfarben im Orionnebel promoviert ; zwischenzeitlich hatte er bei W . W . Campbell am Lick Observatory gearbeitet . 1911 - 13 verbrachte er als ' Martin Kellog fellow ' an den Universitäten Bonn und Marseille bei Kayser bzw . Fabry , wo er in die Techniken der Präzisionsspektroskopie eingeführt wurde , und 1913 - 19 arbeitete er als erster Spektroskopiker am National Bureau ... Astronomie an der University of Pittsburgh ; ferner war er 1941 - 46 Schatzmeister der American Astronomical Society
