Trained as a theoretical physicist at National Taiwan University, Yuan-Nan Young conducted fundamental research on astrophysical fluid dynamics for his PhD work with Dr. R. Rosner at University of Chicago. After his PhD, Dr. Young was a postdoc in ESAM (Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics) at Northwestern University, working on pattern formation and defect chaos with Hermann Ricke from 2000 to 2002, after when he was a postdoctoral fellow at Center For Turbulence Research at Stanford University from 2002 to 2004. He then joined the Department of Mathematical Sciences at New Jersey Institute of Technology as faculty. Since 2004, Dr. Young's research focuses on fluid-structure interactions that involve fluid interface and elastic materials. More recently, Dr. Young has investigated lipid bilayer membrane (building block for cellular membrane), its interaction with surfactant, proteins, nano particles and solid substrates.
