Born (1964) in Chongqing, China of parents originally from Bandung, Indonesia; and grow up in Hong Kong; studied in the USA in 1980-90s (Ph.D. with Mike Sheetz on discovering kinectin) and further trained in EMBL on microscopy with Gareth Griffiths before leading independent research in Singapore in 1997. From 1998 onwards, led programs in tissue engineering, and extended into other liver biology and pathology studies; founded 3 PhD programs in bioengineering, computation and systems biology, and mechanobiology; and publishing at these interface. More recent projects include team models for R&D; and interdisciplinary dialog & critical thinking. Spent time thinking about photography and theology.
