I was born July 15 1931 in Brooklyn, NY. I attended NYU BA 1953. After my PhD at IU in 1958 with H. J. Muller, I taught at Queen's University, UCLA, and Stony Brook University. I retired in 2001 and devoted my years since then writing books, a newspaper column on science, and learning. I have 13 published books and one in press and several in different states of development. I write on the history of genetics, the philosophy of science, and science and society issues. I am married to Nedra Carlson and we raised six children and have 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. I am now in assisted living at IU's retirement community, Meadowood. I am a Fellow of the American Associations for the Advancement of Science and I have won several teaching awards.
