Bio:

1877-1971. Castellani described the etiologic agent of sleeping sickness working in Uganda. Born in Italy, he studied medicine in Florence. He later served as the Bacteriologist for Ceylon and then was Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He studied many parasitic diseases and fungal pathogens, especially of the skin. Castellani's paint is named for him (Carbol fuschin), a therapy for fungal skin infections.
