Prof. Hans Krieger was born in Landenberg, Germany, on 19 May 1929. He studied at the University of Cologne under the supervision of Prof. Kurt Alder, obtaining his Diplom-Chemiker-Hauptprüfung (M.Sc.) in 1955 and Dr. rer. nat. in 1958. He then moved to Finland, where he joined the scientific laboratory of Lääke Oy (1959-1962) and then joined the faculty of University of Oulu, where he served as a pro tem professor of organic chemistry and then was appointed as a Chair in organic chemistry in 1964. He held this position until his retirement in 1991.

Prof. Hans Krieger died on 11.6.2005 in Lemgo, Germany.
