Eric Altman received a B.S. in chemical engineering from Cornell University in 1983, and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988. From 1990-1993 he was with the Chemistry Division of the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). At NRL, he focused on scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) studies of fullerenes and their interactions with metal surfaces. Since joining Yale in 1994 his work has been directed towards using STM to directly observe the mechanisms and kinetics of elementary reaction steps on surfaces....
