Prof Peter Tanner spent two spells in the chemical industry in the UK. He completed his PhD entitled “Spectroscopy of uranyl complexes” at the University of London and was awarded the DSc qualification by University of Surrey in 1996. He has taught in secondary, further and higher education in UK, and then worked at the Department of Biology and Chemistry at City University of Hong Kong for 21 years. Following his retirement from CityU in 2011 he has taught at the Education University of Hong Kong, Sun Yat-Sen University, Kyoto University and South China University of Technology before joining Baptist University of Hong Kong in 2016. He is currently teaching Year 2 Chemistry Courses. His present research focuses upon lanthanide ion spectra and energy transfer processes.
