Dr. Thomas L. Bailey of Gainesville died Monday. He was 81.
Dr. Bailey was born in Newnan, Ga. He moved to Gainesville in 1953 from Chicago. He was a professor of physics and electrical engineering at the University of Florida. He served as an aerial navigator in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at Carnegie Institute of Technology, and received his master’s in chemistry and his doctorate in physical chemistry at the University of Chicago. He was a member of Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi fraternities and enjoyed playing tennis. He was Episcopalian. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Elinor W. Bailey. Survivors include a son, Andy Bailey of Gainesville; a daughter, Krista Bailey Corey of Gainesville; and two grandchildren.
