MARINI BETTOLO MARCONI , Giovanni Battista . - He was born in Rome on June 27, 1915 to Rinaldo Marini and Evelina Bettolo, both Ligurians; he then merged the surnames of his parents into Marini Bettolo. He completed his first studies privately in Rome and, from 1924 to 1929, in Harbin in Manchuria following the new marriage of his mother, widow since 1918, with Umberto Marconi, an official of the British government at Chinese customs. The adoption, which later took place, involved the further addition of the surname Marconi, almost always omitted in everyday life.
