Waldemar Saffioti was born in Bragança Paulista, SP, on January 2, 1922. He graduated in Chemistry in 1942 and in Licentiate in 1945, from the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of USP. From January 1946 to October 1948 he carried out his doctoral work at USP, under the guidance of Prof. Heinrich Rheinboldt. On November 13, 1948, he defended his Thesis, having been approved with distinction. Thesis Title: "On Sulfoxide and Selenoxide Addition Compounds with Aryl-carbinols"
He was a secondary school teacher and, in 1950, he was invited by Companhia Editora Nacional to write, in collaboration with Prof. Geraldo Camargo de Carvalho, three Chemistry books for the 3 years of the "scientific" course. Best sellers across the country, textbooks have been widely adopted for nearly 20 years.
