Dr. A. W. Fairhall received the B.Sc., degree in chemistry from Queen's Uni- versity (Canada) and the IPh.D. degree from the Mas·sachusetts Institute of Technology. He came to the University of Washington as an Assistant Pro- fessor in 1954. Since 1963 Professor Fairhall has been a full professor at the Universit.y of Washington where he holds a joint appointment in chemistry and physics. Professor Fairhall was the Chairman of the Gordon Research Conference on Nuclear Chemistry, June 1962. He served as Tour Speaker under the N.S.F. Science Teaching Program to eight colleges and universities in the North- west during the winter and spring of 1962 and 1963. In 1963-1964 he was a Guggenheim Fellow at the Rutherford Laboratory, England
