Jia Min originally hails from the sunny island of Singapore. For her undergraduate studies, she attended Columbia University in New York on the prestigious I. I. Rabi Fellowship (from Columbia University) and the National Science Scholarship (from Singapore’s Agency for Science Technology and Research, A*STAR), graduating magna cum laude with a B.A. in Biochemistry. During this period, she trained in the laboratory of Professor Jack R. Norton, which piqued her interest in synthetic inorganic chemistry. She therefore chose to pursue inorganic chemistry research for her PhD studies under the supervision of 2005 Nobel Laureate Professor Richard R. Schrock at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she studied N2 activation by Mo and W complexes.
