Alexander T. Mikhailov, MD, Ph.D., D.Sc. is a Full Professor (1992, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia) and Research Director (1995- ) of the Institute of Health Sciences at the University of La Coruna in Spain. He received his PhD in 1973 from the Institute of Human Morphology of the USSR/Russian Academy of Medical Sciences in Moscow after working on the biochemical differentiation of embryonic retina and brain. In 1975, he moved to the Koltzov’s Institute of Developmental Biology of the USSR/Russian Academy of Sciences, also in Moscow, where he developed an independent research program, employing cellular, biochemical and molecular biology assays to highlight the mechanisms of inductive interactions in the embryo.
