Dr. Jerry R. Choate, 66, retired director of Fort Hays State's Sternberg Museum of Natural History, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009. His death resulted from a six-year battle with melanoma, a form of skin cancer that kills nearly 9.000 a year. Choate is survived by his wife, Fi, Hays, his mother, Alyce Marks, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and his son Judd '92 and his wife, Lyn Kathlene, and Judd's daughter, Mahlon, all of Denver, Colorado.
