K. N. C. Bray has degrees from Cambridge, Princeton, and Southampton Universities. He was Professor of Gas Dynamics at Southampton and then Hopkinson and Imperial Chemical Industries Professor of Applied Thermodynamics at Cambridge, where he is now an Emeritus Professor. His current research interests in combustion include the various ways in which turbulence interacts with combustion processes. He was Editor of Combustion and Flame from 1981 to 1986 and was elected to a Fellowship of The Royal Society in 1991
