The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1908 was awarded jointly to Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov and Paul Ehrlich in recognition of their work on immunity
Born in Russia and appointed as Professor at the University of Odessa, but in 1888 emigrated to work with Louis Pasteur in Paris. Discovered the phagocyte and shared the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1908 with Paul Ehrlich.
