In the summer of 1921 Ros obtained a PhD in Philosophy at Heidelberg with the dissertation "Zur Logik der Sprachwissenschaft". To meet the requirements for his appointment in Classical Literature Ros obtained a 2nd PhD on 9 July 1923 at the Free University of Amsterdam in Literature and Philosophy with the dissertation "Kritische Studien über philologische Methode"
