"Adam Paganini"Bio:
Adam Paganini was appointed to serve as COAST’s Student Success Specialist in 2023. In this role he directs COAST’s summer internship opportunities and develops student talent and excellence through inclusive professional development. Alongside this, Adam is also directing the California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) Ocean Science Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. Adam received both his Bachelor’s of Science in Biology (2008) and a Master’s of Science in Marine Biology (2013) degrees from San Francisco State University where he worked alongside his mentor Dr. Jonathon Stillman. Adam garnered attention in the Stillman Lab with his research demonstrating the metabolic & energetic tradeoffs intertidal crabs make when exposed to future ocean warming and ocean acidification conditions. Adam then worked with Dr. Karina Nielsen at SF State’s Estuary & Ocean Science (EOS) Center, through NOAA’s CeNCOOS program, to deploy a novel CO2-monitoring buoy into the SF Estuary that provided real-time carbonate chemistry and acidification monitoring. Most recently, he concluded coordinating a 7-year NSF-NRT grant to build a new MS degree pathway in Interdisciplinary Marine & Estuarine Science at SF State called RIPTIDES, where he promoted student success in marine science training. Adam lives in Monterey Bay with his wife and enjoys wrestling with their dog, Frida, as well as playing guitar and singing in the latino punk-rock group La Plebe.
