The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1948 was awarded to Paul Müller for his discovery of the high efficiency of DDT as a contact poison against several arthropods.
Chemist, Won Nobel Prize in 1948 for physiology or medicine. Developed DDT, used in the control of typhus and malaria vectors in the 1940s and 1950s, but with the recognition of its harmful effects on wildlife and risks as a pollutant for humans, DDT was banned in most nations of the world by the 1970s.
