Edvard Rudolf Neovius (1851–1917) was the third of Edvard Engelbert's five sons. Like his brothers he joined the Cadet School — comfortably located in their home town, graduated at the age of 17 as second best in his class, and served with his brother Lars in the Volhynian Guard Regiment in Warsaw. As with Lars, the military life did not satisfy him and the two brothers went to the ETH in Zürich.
