Bio:

He was born in Patras, on November 10, 1909, where he graduated from the 1st High School of Patras. He studied mechanical engineering and then physics at the Technical University of Zurich, finishing his doctorate in 1935, the year he returned to Greece. During World War II, he enlisted in the Car Squadron in Patras, but because he was a skier, he joined the Skiers' Battalion and from there was transferred to a light bulb factory in the Mediterranean.

From 1939 to 1974, as a full professor, he held the chair of Experimental Physics at the Department of Physics of the University of Athens. He was also Rector of the University of Athens during the years 1970-72, a position from which he resigned in protest of the interventions of the then regime in higher education. He died in Athens on March 27, 2010.
