William Dawson Armstrong, son of William and
Mary E. Armstrong, received his education in the
schools of his native city, but early began the study of
music which he prosecuted zealously under many
teachers. Among them may be mentioned Joseph
Gratian, the noted organ builder, and Mrs. Lucia I.
Priest (nee Imogene Brown) of Alton, Charles Kunkel,
E. R. Kroeger, Louis Mayer and P. G. Anton of St.
Louis, Missouri, Clarence Eddy of Chicago and the
late G. M. Garrett, of Cambridge, England.
