"Cornelius Tobias"Bio:
https://www.gf.org/fellows/all-fellows/cornelius-a-tobias/
https://books.google.com/books?id=9FusyKhanxsC Dr. Tobias started his research work at the Radiation Laboratory in 1940 , under the direction of Professor Alvarez ( on the theoretically - expected radioactive decay of the neutron ) , but just after the apparatus had been set up , the experiment ( on the 37 " cyclotron ) had to be stopped ( in 1942 ) in order to use that instrument for the separation of uranium isotopes ( the first important war - research at Berkeley ) . As stated in Chapter XVI , he eventually received the Ph.D. degree in 1942 , with a thesis under the direction of Professor Lawrence entitled " High Energy Carbon Nuclei . " This work was done on the 60 " cyclotron .
Dr. Tobias was then immediately employed in the Donner Laboratory and he has been there ever since . Starting as a Research Fellow , he became an Instructor in Medical Physics when the Division of Medical Physics was formed in 1945.
