Varanasi, professor of atmospheric sciences at Stony Brook University in New York, shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Varanasi is an active and contributing member of that panel. His research involves infrared spectroscopic measurements of molecular constituents in the atmosphere. One of the pivotal problems associated with global warming is a phenomenon called the water-vapor feedback mechanism.
