Bio:

He joined Martin Ryle's radio astronomy group at the Cavendish Laboratory. For his thesis research he used the One Mile Telescope at Lord's Bridge to map the newly discovered "Compact HII regions" at 6 cm and 21 cm wavelength. He was awarded a research fellowship at Trinity College in 1969 and his PhD degree in 1971.
