Bio:

George Matheron was a student of Paul Lévy at École Polytechnique, then at École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Paris in 1965 with Robert Fortet as his doctoral advisor. Matheron is well-known for being the founder of geostatistics and co-founder, with Jean Serra, of mathematical morphology.
