Bio:

STEPHEN SMITH grew up in a small town in Alabama, and attended the public schools. He earned both his bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in experimental physics at MIT. For 10 years, he was a faculty member at Princeton and at Bryn Mawr College, where he greatly enjoyed teaching introductory physics and carrying out research in quantum optics. He is co-author of a text on freshman physics.
Looking for change, Steve left the security of a tenured academic position and moved to industry. He was successively project engineer, department head, and general manager at EMR Photoelectric, in Princeton Junction. (EMR is now known as Schlumberger’s Princeton Technology Center.) Five years ago, he returned to his teaching and academic roots, and became Manager of Instructional Laboratories at Princeton’s physics department.
