Bio:

Dr Ruchira Somaweera is an evolutionary biologist at the Australia’s national science institute, the CSIRO, and specialises on the ecology and conservation of reptiles. His research underpins the common theme of the adaptive significance of reptiles to the changes in their environment. Ruchira’s current field work programs range from sea snakes in the Indian Ocean, to crocodiles in remote Australian outback, to reptiles of Komodo national park in Indonesia, to the endemic horned lizards in the high mountains of Sri Lanka. His work has led to numerous scientific papers, four books, several children's and citizen science publications, and has been showcased in documentaries and TV series both nationally and internationally. As a National Geographic Explorer and a scientist of the STEM Professionals in Schools program of the Australian government, Ruchira is actively involved in the inspiring the next generation of biologists and popularising science among the general public.
