"Christoph Weder"Bio:
Since 2009 Christoph Weder serves as Professor for Polymer Chemistry and Materials at the Adolphe Merkle Institute of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. He is also the Director of this recently established competence center for fundamental and applied research on soft nanomaterials and leads the Swiss National Center of Competence in Research Bio-Inspired Materials.
Chris Weder was trained as a chemist/material scientist at ETH Zurich and carried out postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He subsequently earned a Habilitation from ETH Zurich, and held a faculty position at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland (USA) for nine years, before he joined the University of Fribourg.
Chris Weder’s research interests are the design, synthesis, and investigation of polymer-based nanomaterials. He has co-authored over 200 scientific papers and book chapters and is co-inventor of 16 patent families. He was involved in one start-up company and made significant contributions to several commercialized technologies.
Weder is a recipient of the 3M Non-Tenured Faculty Award, the DuPont Young Professor Award, an NSF Special Creativity Award, and an ERC Advanced Grant.
Weder serves the scientific community as Associate Editor for the journal ACS Macro Letters and as co-Editor of the RSC Book Series Polymer Chemistry. He is also an Editorial Advisory Board Member of several other journals, one of the directors of the Swiss Chemical Society’s Polymer and Colloid Division, and an Expert of the Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences (SATW).
