Halsey received his degree 2 years after Eyring left for the Univ. of Utah in 1946. Dissertation published in the Journal of Applied Physics, vol 18, pp. 1072-1098 in 1947. The work was based on previous work done with Eyring at the Textile Research Institute on the Princeton campus. Hugh Taylor encouraged him to pull it all together in a dissertation and be awarded the doctoral degree. Hugh Stott Taylor mentored Halsey and established career interest in surface chemistry (verified by phone conversation July 2011)
