Arthur Hoyt Uhl wurde am 31. Juli 1900 in Galesville in Wisconsin geboren. Er studierte Pharmazie an der Universität Wisconsin in Madison und erhielt hier 1930 seinen Doktortitel (Ph.D.) unter Edward Kremers und wurde 1939 zum (full) Professor emannt. 1935 wurde er Kremers' Nachfolger als Direktor der School of Pharmacy an der Universität, an der er 38 Jahre lang bis zu seiner Emeritierung 1968 verblieb. Gleichzeitig war er 1941-1955 Präsident des AIHP und 1955-1971 Chairman des Beirats. Er verstarb am 29. Dezember 1979 in Tuscon, Arizona.
