DOI: 10.1007/s10479-013-1429-x Kai-Lai Chung was his formal thesis advisor. However, Cy wrote what he called a second thesis with Herbert Robbins, who considered Cy as his student. In addition Cy on many occasions had expressed his gratitude towards Ted Harris for introducing him to ways of thinking about stochastic processes
