Richmond H. Browne, professor of music (theory), will retire from active faculty status on May 31, 1996.
A native of Flint, Professor Browne, received his B.Mus. degree from Michigan State University in 1955, his second B.Mus. degree in 1957 from Yale University, and his M.Mus. degree from Yale in 1958. He also studied in Austria during 1958-59 at the Academie fur Musik in Vienna and the Mozarteum in Salzburg as a Fulbright scholar. He served as a guest lecturer at the University of Michigan during the winter term in 1960 and as assistant professor of music at Yale University from 1959-68. He rejoined the music faculty at the University of Michigan in 1968 as associate professor; he was named professor in 1976.
