Ralph H. Lyman (1883-1954) came to Pomona College in 1917 from the University of Oregon, where he was dean of the school of music. As professor of applied music and head of the Music Department for 30 years, Lyman would be remembered by generations of students as one of Pomona’s greatest teachers. According to the Pomona College Magazine in 1917, he studied for three years in Berlin with Vittorino Moratti.
