Bio:

Ahmet Şefik Çakmak, the grandson of a Turkish field marshal Mustafa Fevzi Çakmak by his mother Nigar Çakmak, received his B.S. in civil engineering from Boğaziçi University, formerly known as Robert College in Istanbul in 1957.
He received his PhD in 1962 from what was then called the Department of Civil and Geological Engineering at Princeton University and became a lecturer there. Named assistant professor the next year, he was promoted to associate and full professor in 1969 and 1972. He was the dean of the school of Engineering and Applied Science during 1991-1999.
