I was born 4 Sep 1949 in Bryn Mawr PA, outside Philadelphia, From 6-16, I grew up in Shillington PA, but finished high school in Wheaton, IL, in 1967. I graduated from Lawrence University (Appleton, Wisconsin) in 1971. I did my MA and PhD at the University of Iowa under Prof. Isidore Gormezano. After completing my PhD in 1976, I have spent my academic career at UNSW since 1977
