Heinrich Kurz (* 7. December 1943 in Pennewang ; † 12. March 2016 in Aachen [1] ) was an Austrian physicist who with semiconductor physics , nanotechnology , femtosecond spectroscopy, terahertz radiation applications and optoelectronics dealt. [2]

In 1962 he studied physics and mathematics at the University of Vienna with a Diploma in Physics in 1968. At the new Atomic Institute of the Austrian Universities, he worked on his dissertation diffraction of thermal neutrons on optical bar grids in 1966-1970 , with which he was promoted in 1971 . After that, he worked at the Philips Research Laboratory in Hamburg until 1981 , where he worked on optical storage materials. From 1981 to 1984, he was a research associate at the Harvard University at Nicolaas Bloembergen with a Feodor Lynen scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation , where he researched time-resolved optical studies of highly excited states in semiconductors. In 1983, he qualified as a professor at the University of Hamburg and became a professor at RWTH Aachen in 1984 and head of the laboratory for femtosecond spectroscopy on semiconductors . In 1987, he received the Alfried Krupp Award for Young University Teachers . Since 1990 he has held the Chair for Semiconductor Technology at RWTH Aachen University.
Since 1993 he has been the Managing Director of the Association for Applied Micro- and Optoelectronics (AMO GmbH) in Aachen. [1]
Since 2005 he has been a member of the Academy of Sciences and the Arts in North Rhine-Westphalia .
In 2011 Kurz was emeritus .
