Odé studied theology in Harderwijk. In 1721 he graduated in philosophy and liberal arts (Philosophiae Dr. et Liberalium Artium Magister)and was appointed in 1723 extraordinary prof philosophy in Utrecht. Starting 1727 Odé also taught theology and participated en in the heated dogmatic disputations of the time.
Students didn't like his lectures ('tiresome long-windedness'); for that reason he was never promoted to ordinary professor. In 1743 he resigned.
