Note: Uhlenbeck left Utrecht in 1939, one year after Pais got his 'candidaats' (~ B.Sc.). Pais defended his doctoral thesis on July 9, 1941 under Uhlenbeck's successor Rosenfeld, 5 days before Jews were expelled from the University by the German occupation authorities
